Social Media for Job Openings

We are always educating ourselves on the best way to reach our existing therapists and make connections with new ones. Social media has presented us with many opportunities. Getting familiar with each of the “social” services and how to best make use of them is a challenge. We currently have accounts with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, SlideShare and LinkedIn. They are all great places to share our message and meet our therapists but we need feedback from you to let us know if we are hitting the target  - or not?? For the first time, we have listed a job opening on our company page at LinkedIn and feel like that will be a great place for us to advertize openings as we go forward. Please review the link below and let us know your thoughts. We are off to a great new year!

Interim Therapy for New Grads?

Great question via e-mail to Peggy from an upcoming OT graduate:

I am currently a student who will be graduating with my Masters degree of Occupational Therapy this coming May. Do you feel PEG is a good fit for new graduates looking to start their careers? Are there mentoring opportunities for new members to the profession?

Sincerely,

"unknown" but Very Smart Student

Response from Peggy on behalf of PEG and its relavent for many situations:

Thanks for your email!  Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!!!  Wow!  A long journey, wasn’t it?  And I know a tough one, so you do deserve credit.  I am a PT and understand the level of commitment.

As far as starting your career as an interim OTR, it really is up to the individual candidate.  I have had this company now since 1991 and over those years I have hired a handful of therapists right from school that did amazingly well.  I am glad you said “fit” because that is truly why I started this company.

This company can be a “fit” for a new grad that is possibly more mature, may have some other “life” experience like previous work history or had some leadership positions.  I am looking for therapists who are CONFIDENT, COMPETENT, and OUTGOING, meaning an interim therapist does not need to be a super-therapist but just interested in helping their patient, who is confident in their abilities as a therapist but also knows when to ask questions when unsure.  This description fits therapists with all levels of experience!  It really depends on the individual, as I mentioned earlier.  If you enjoy a challenge, want to broaden your horizons in all areas of your profession, learn a lot and see a lot by exposure to multitudes of other clinicians/settings/equipment, this is a GREAT place to start.  And yes, all new grads are assigned a mentor to begin their practice as therapists.  They are in contact with each other often to review patient care and treatment plans.

I would love to talk to you more about PEG Therapists.  If you would like me to call you, just email me back your phone number and when the best time is to call or you could call me on my cell, 314-973-9053.  I think it would be very beneficial to meet and talk about what you are looking for and if it is a match with what we are looking for with PEG.  There is so much to tell you… I am looking forward to talking to you about how exciting it is to practice OT as an interim therapist!

Best Regards,

Caps and Cuts Prevented for 2 Months

December 23 announcement from APTA

Legislation Passed to Prevent Caps and Cuts for 2 Months

The House of Representatives passed legislation to extend the payroll tax break, fee schedule update, rural payment update, therapy cap exception extension and other end year provisions this morning.   The Senate also passed the measure this morning and was signed by the President this afternoon.    This will prevent the 27.4% fee schedule reduction on January 1, 2012, maintain the 1.0 GPCI floor on rural payments, and provides for a continuation of the exceptions process to the $1880 therapy cap until February 29, 2012.

When Congress returns next year, attention will turn to the conference committee assigned to hammer out a deal between the two chambers to prevent these cuts and caps effective March 1, 2012.  But the differences remain large over how to pay for the deal.  The profession must continue to remain vigilant to prevent this from happening next year.

Thank you for your continued support on these issues for the profession and the patients we serve.

Intro to PEG Social Media Connections

September 23, 2011

TFIG to all PEG therapists!

I wanted to give you the update on our new website. If you haven’t visited it yet, I invite you to do so. We have had a few glitches in the actual launching, getting all of the buttons to work correctly, etc but for the most part, it is up and running and it looks BEAUTIFUL!!! We hope that our site serves as a resource tool for you professionally.

In order to get the most out of our website and all of the new social media outlets, we would love for you to consider signing up for accounts at Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn ( they are free ). Simply go to our new website at www.pegtherapists.comand click on each of the three social media buttons at the top of the page to see our information and sign up for your own account.

Once you have an account you can follow us on Twitter @ pegtherapists to see our timely and instant information updates and any last minute scheduling changes that could occur. Link to us and see our company and personal updates on LinkedIn while making and maintaining your own personal network. There are so many different groups you can join to gain information on any topic under the sun. And if you are a Facebook person, friend and/or “Like” the PEG Therapists page to see our timely educational updates and events. Just search “PEG Therapists” and you will be connected to our page, which you can then “Like” to be automatically updated.

Along the top navigation bar, under Content, there is a Links button that has a list of websites that are great resources for therapists, including our professional national organizations. I will continue to add to this list so that if you needed to find something out professionally, you could refer to this list.

Last but not least is our new blog attached to the website. The blog will have regular updates ranging from technical information, fun topics, practice updates and the state of our profession. When we post new blog segments, we will “Tweet” about it and “update our status” on Facebook and LinkedIn so you will know to go look at it and have an idea what to expect. All of this can adapt over time to better serve all of our needs and your comments are welcome.

Thank you and I would love to hear your comments! Look forward to “connecting” with you!

Our new blog and website

Our new blog and website has been a long time coming. Since we are a “very busy” therapy staffing company and not an IT company (a good thing), it is hard to allocate the time and focus needed to get these sorts of things up and running.
